Sunday Challenge " Textures"

Well guys here we are Sunday again, I can't believe how fast this week went by. Well this weeks challenge is Texture, I kind of cheated, a few new and some from last years Tex challenge. I just plain ran out of time and so this is my effort for today.

I don't know how well you can see the pillow in the first shot but I got that at our Kootenay Backcountry Xmas party, it was a donation to the Silent Auction contributed by Shirley over at Ride a Good Horse. You can't see it but it is made with a kind of rough material....almost like a raised texture....can you tell from my terminology that I am not a seamstress however Shirley is quite accomlished.
This is a gift from my mother, she said it was a rug.....not I would never put this on the floor to get all dirty. I am still trying to get it as a wall hanging. Never one to miss an opportunity to put Sage in the limelight, doesn't she show the texture of the rock nicely. This is a shot of our front porch, I thought the different angles made a nice contirbution to this challenge.....oh my look at all that green .......lovingly, longingly, trust me we are nowhere near that yet....not even close :( Last but not least our kind of conversation piece, for those of you that may not have seen it before this is our front door. Well I am late for chores so that is it. I look forward to coming back in and sitting down with a cup of coffee and spending some time with you guys. Later. Have a great day.

Sunday Challenge "Sports" And A Thank You

Ok I'm cheating I didn't get any shots of what one might think is tradional sports so this is what I'm going with instead. Swimming . Swimming Stick Race. She shoots she scores, Jolly Ball Driveway Soccer.

How about a little Cardboard Bobsledding. Well fellow bloggers that's it for me. Before I go though I really want to say a big thank you to the people that have been following along on my blog and the ones that browse through from time to time.I will try to keep this short, here's a little history about how I got started blogging. My friend Shirley over at Ride A Good Horse had started blogging she told me about it and said I should start one as well. I have to say I was quite skeptical .....maybe even a little cynical about the whole thing. Shirley walked me through the procedure to get started and thus Own A Morgan was created, I thought well it will be a good way to advertise my horses, I haven't sold a single horse through this blog but something else happened, I started following other blogs and I was hooked. This blog has linked me to so many warm, funny, interesting and oh so talented people. There are so many blogs I would like to follow but there is just not enough time in the day to get to everyone. I do have about a dozen blogs I try to get to on a regular basis, I know some people would say it's silly but you guys have contributed a lot of happiness to my life. You have made me laugh .......a lot and you have made me cry. Through this wacky machine I feel I have been privy to some of your trials and triumphs and been made a part of your lives as well, for this I want to say thank you very much and I hope you keep trailing along with me. This is my 200th post and so in the next day or so I am going to have a contest ........yahoo my first one. I will post on Mon. to tell you how to enter. Now I'm off to see what you all posted for the challenge. Later.

Double Take

I stopped to pick up my mail today and did a double take. There is a house..... in New Or....just kidding ,there is a house very near our mail box I guess by city standards you could say it's a block- block and a half from our house, or in simpler terms it's the next road over. At any rate as I was driving by the house just before the mailbox there was this beautiful Buck standing in the yard, at first I thought it was one of those cheesy fake things people are so fond of putting in their yards.

When I got closer I could see how big and beautiful .....and real he really was. After I did a double take I drove on down to the mailbox and parked the car. When I was walking back to grab the photo op a lady stepped out of the house and proceeded to throw something at the Buck, I thought it was an attempt to chase him away but uh huh ....she was throwing food to him. I couldn't believe how tame he is, she did this a few more times and he just kept getting closer. A fellow traveller saw me taking pics and stopped to chat about the Buck he was mad at himself for not having his camera. While I was snapping happily away another smaller Buck came from behind a building.......did I already say talk about double take. The woman feeding the Buck says she gets half a dozen stopping by for a free meal.

These guys were so photogenic that the guy who didn't have his camera went home to get it. He should have done what I did and parked by the mail box cause all he got was the backside of the pair leaving.

Sunday Challenge "Moods and Emotions"

I found this weeks challenge just that. I never got the chance to go looking for new things to shoot at.....not literally.... but anyhow I don't think I have a very good selection of pictures that bring out too many different emotions or moods. Well being as I hate to be a quitter I decided something was better than nothing so here goes.
Well guys that's it for me....it's the best I could come up with. I can tell you one thing though, in some of those pics there was a few emotions going on. Maybe you had to be there. Anyhow I look forward to you guys whipping up some of my emotions see you in the morning.

A Touch of Color

Well it is such a dismal day out there and I really don't have a whole lot to say so I thought I would put a little splash of color on here and maybe get myself psyched for my coming season.....well maybe it sure doesn't feel like it right now. The owner of the corner store(gas station) said the forcast is for some more -20 #!###!!! I guess that means back into the coveralls the scarf, hat bla bla bla, not that I wasn't expecting it. A week or so of nice weather(if sprinkles of rain ,sun and warm temps makes for nice weather) does not a Spring make. Anyhow enough complaining, here is a container I did for the Cranbrook Golf Club last year it was one of my favorites and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do this year to top it.

Those plants are in a 15 gallon pot set inside a wood barrel, by the end of July you couldn't see any of the barrel. It is definitely going to be tough to come up with something better.

Sunday Challenge "Your Best Shot Of 2009"

I don't know about the best shots and honestly I just couldn't bring myself to go back through all those pictures.....talk about headache material. When I thought about it these two pics came to mind....why did I pick them I guess because for me they are actually not bad pictures, mostly though I just really like my dog. This one was from the challenge (The Color Red) And this one is from the challenge (Wildflowers) Sage was so happy to be out , it was her first ride with the horses since she was injured, so this photo really stuck in my mind.
The challenge was your best shot of 2009 we were to pick two favorites, I thought that would be the real challenge. These two .....for me win hands down. I look forward to seeing some pretty good stuff from everyone else. Have a wonderful day.

A Marvelous Day

I didn't get to ride my horse today but I did get to do something just as good...in it's own way maybe better. I got to go on a sleigh ride, the really cool part was well all of it but no really the cool part was that the horse pulling was once one of mine. I am so proud of her and impressed by her new owner. This guy really puts in the time and effort to get good end results. Take a look at this first picture at how well behaved these two are. H does this stuff all the time, frequently on his own so they are trained to stand properly and quietly. Nicely done.

We stopped and H got out to be the camera guy. I actually drove the team for about 2 feet.....Ok it was a little further than that, this is the first time I have ever done this. I have had opportunities before but I never felt comfortable enough try it. Now that I've had a little taste I think I'm going to be wanting to do this a lot more.......problem is I no longer own the perfect horse for the job.

How's that for a view. This is in the area we used to live in. I was reminded how much I miss it out there. Anyhow best not to dwell on that. I really enjoyed my sleigh ride and best of all my horse really has found her place in life.

Birthday Girl

Sorry for the fuzzy pics, they are photos off my old computer and I believe my camera is in it's death throes. I'm sure even through the fuzz you can see how adorable Sage was as a wee pup. I almost changed my mind at the last minute and picked a different pup. When I took this picture and looked into that face I was a goner. I can't believe six years have gone by, it sure went fast. I can say though that I sure am glad I brought this critter into my life.....I think I also had a push from Shirley.

She has grown to be smart, beautiful and an amazing companion. I never get tired of watching her antics, and she makes me laugh out loud at least once a day.

Shadow looked after her when she was little and they are good friends but Sage is boss now and they allow her to get away with being a bit of a hag.

Sage has loved her toys from day one, it is truly interesting to see what she thinks is a toy and how she can turn it into one even when that's not supposed to be what its for.

Jade Under Saddle

Yay long overdue but here she is, Jade actually moving forward. I get to say she is further along than I expected Wahoo Wahoo. I am very excited to get on her myself. I may even allow a short video to be taken so I can share my excitement with you guys. Sorry for the poor quality video but hey you know me camera stupid. In my defense it was quite dark in there and sometimes I wasn't even sure I had the horse in the shot but I don't care yay.....yay and yay.

Well I let this thing run all night and couldn't get the video I wanted. I think it is the length of the video . It says they take 100MB and the video is 101 too bad because Jade looks great Loping out there, at any rate I will leave you with this and try to find a way to edit the last bit of the other one so I can get it on here. Anyhow yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!

1st Post Of 2010

Wow twenty ten just saying that is kind of mind boggling. I don't think I figured I would be around to roll that one around on my tongue. Well since I'm here and I don't think I whine a lot.....do I....well maybe.. but whatever, today I am having a bit of a pity party for myself, you can either follow along or tune out. I had a plan and par for the course it was run off the tracks. My dog , my horse and myself were going to load up on Sat. morning and head over to Shirley's in Creston. We were going to go sorting or cutting ...whatever was on the menu and just because everything was arranged and I could get out of here for an overnighter the weather went for #!#!!!#####. I resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going anywhere and then this is what it looked like here this morning.
It has since clouded over and isn't looking nearly as pretty as it was earlier, well that just makes me feel so much better now I can quit being crabby about the whole thing...another time.....we will try again in Feb. Shirley, that will be when Dave comes home again and maybe I will be able to sneak away. So instead of going and having fun this is how we spent the morning .

Dave is heading back to work at 4:00 am Sun morning so this is a job he has been working at on and off since he got home in the first week of Dec. I think we have enough wood to last awhile now. When he gets home in Feb. he will have to be right back at it though because it won't be long after that and there will be plants and seedlings trying to stay alive.

George decided this was a job that he needed to inspect before we went much further. He made sure the Tractor was good and he inspected the Quad tires, he was definitely on a mission.

After checking everything he gave the go ahead to finish the job.
So even though I didn't get a break from the grind we did get something accomplished.
